What I love about Advertising

Advertising is literally everywhere, from TV commercials to billboards on the main highways; we are exposed to the normal ways of advertisement on the daily. Lately technology has been changing and improving and advertisers are coming up with new ways to advertise products, now we get those ads before a YouTube video or while Pandora is playing. With the consumer being exposed to so many different things, now products have to really shine through the rest of the market.

Creativity and innovation are two of the main reasons why I love advertising so much. The direction in which society and the way things are advertised is changing and many boundaries are being broken and challenged. Advertisers have started looking into what the newer generation is interested by and what makes us want a product.

Being a photography minor gives me a different outlook on advertising, having an eye that is good with design helps me recognize and appreciate the minor details that go into any ad. For example, when doing a photo shoot for some print ads everything in the set is put specifically for a reason and has a purpose in the telling of a story. A print ad is just like a photo essay where the image is actually telling a story and giving us an insight into the life of the model.

I believe that this is the major that fits my qualities as well as my goals for the future. Even though this is one of my first classes that I have taken for this major, I am very exciting to see the things I will be doing and the products I will be practicing with and creating campaigns for.

Getting Emotional

This years Super Bowl commercials are all about appealing to the emotions of the audience. From the Nationwide commercial about a kid saying all the things he will never be able to do; ride a bike, get married, grow up, because he died from an accident like drowning or ingesting chemicals. Or the Budweiser puppy commercial, where the puppy gets lost and finds his way home to his best friend horses. But in my opinion McDonald’s takes the crown this year.

The McDonald’s "Play with Lovin" commercial shows normal clients at a regular McDonalds ordering their food. When it came to the time of payment the cashiers give them tasks, from calling mom and telling her you love her, to dancing for everyone. The clients hesitant at first do such tasks and discover that’s the only payment needed. This commercial is so emotional and inspirational it made me wants to call my own mother and tell her I love her, while shedding a tear or two.

The future of Advertising

R/GA is an advertising agency established in New York City who was named "2015's Agency of the Year" by Advertising Age. The Agency has an array of different types of clients such as Beats by Dre, Google, Ray Ban, and Tiffany and Co. The agency has cemented its great reputation for combining technology and creativity. According to the article on Advertising Agency, "The work did not merely reflect popular culture; it steered it."

When researching R/GA I was instantly drawn in by their knowledge and proper use of culture and media. They have a great understanding in what interests people and what draws their attention. One of my favorite campaigns from this company was for the Nike+ Fuelband. Even though this was a campaign from 2012, this agency's vision for the future was clear. They took the fast growing resurfacing of the EDM culture and festivals to demonstrate the capabilities of the Fuelband. They called it Fuelfest, this was a festival where each attendant received a fuel band and their stats where displayed in a giant board on stage. The more the crowd danced the more points the board got. This created a fun, interactive demonstration of what the Nike+ Fuelband was capable of.
